Gil started his career in 1959 working as an Assistant Stage Manager at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry before training at the Webber Douglas Academy as an LCC Scholarship student, graduating in 1961, and winning The Rodney Millington Spotlight Award for outstanding performances in his final year. He has enjoyed a great career across screen and stage since then. His most recent theatre was as Polonius in Hamlet at the Bussey Building in Peckham.
